Worn bed ways in the central area Table droop (the casting sags) Table like gruyere cheese from drilling through work pieces Backlash on all three feeds Knock off mechanism worn and non functional Quill bore worn Quill R8 taper scored Quill R8 key missing / worn (trivial repair) Quill return spring broken (trivial repair) Early mechanical long feed knackered if fitted Sump clogged full of dead pond life and coolant pump non functional Way oiling pump and fittings clogged if fitted Wear in spline for back gear Back gear dog clutches rounded off Back gear collar pins worn and threads stripped (trivial repair) Draw bar stretched (trivial repair) Electrics generally messed arround by non electricians

Andrew thats a very full and usefull list to look out for. How would I look out for table droop as aposed to wear in the ways

A long straight edge. It is actually possible also to do it with a taut wire. Tension between two points at the ends running over123 blocks to get a standard height, and try to slide a third 123 block under the middle. If the table has drooped (it will have) the gap will be too small.

This is not a problem, it's a little known design feature built in by Bridgeport to compensate for the curvature of the earth. Plays havoc with the flat earth society trying to get that last gnats left bollock in accuracy.

the table will hog. Like a ship in a seaway John I live on the wirral it is flat around here.
