Coolant drain rose material question

Jun 07, 2005 1 Replies

Hi,

There wastalk here recently about how some coolant went a funny colour owing (maybe) to a component of the swarf being leached into it. I want to make a drain rose / strainer for my lathe and in the light of this I'm a bit concerned about what metal to use ? I obviously don't want to pick a metal that will go rusty or suffer from the symptoms described above so what is a safe metal to leave in suds all its lift ?

Thanks,

The one on my Colchester Master is steel and looks to originally have been plated. I am using perforated steel zinc plated on my Bridgeport with no problems. I would avoid aluminium alloys.
