When painting a casting that has machined surfaces which is the best way to keep paint of the nice shiney bits?
Is it best to mask or wipe off whilst wet or scrape off when dry?

This is very hard to explain ... mask off the shiny bits for primer ....... prime
remove masking ... chamfer edges of primer with Stanley blade ...rake the primer 45 degrees. mask up again .. apply top finish gloss-coat
Remove masking .. Use Stanley blade this time to remove /tidy up edges...and remove a bit of the height difference (feather the edge) ...because primer is well back ...you will not remove primer when you clean up....and you wont get any sandwich effect at the edge.
The removed height difference will help conserve the edge of the paint and stop it chipping off.
All the best...mark
Very clear, thank you.
