Torx stuff is very common place on vehicles now, but they don't give any more trouble than convetional nuts/bolts. The good thing is, that if a torx head does get chewed up, there's a bigger area to weld a nut on to!
As for the male torz heads, I quite like them. The sockets have a more positive engagement, and are far less likely to slip of/round than conventional hex heads.
Just make sure you get a good quailty set of bits for female torx heads. Cheap bits really will give you problems, more so than any other cheap tool.
