Warco bandsaw

My Warco Universal Bandsaw arrived last week (finally!). I've bee

playing around with it and find that if I make a vertical 100mm cu through a 10mm thick piece of aluminium, the cut wanders off by abou

1mm when it reaches the bottom of the piece. This is after tweaking th two obvious-looking tweakable bolts.

What I don't know is what I should expect from a bandsaw? Should I b tweaking some more until I get a perfectly square cut? Or should expect to have to square things off afterwards on the mill?

Brendan hi, not my area really but I've used a Warco 6x4 for a number of years with every success. They do need a bit of tweaking and the blade tension needed to be higher than I expected. Despite everyone telling me they would be a problem the Warco blades have served me well but I will try some better quality ones when I run out.

I recently found a lot of interesting stuff about setting them up on

Judging by their pictures they can be set to cut fairly accurately.

I haven't forgotten that I owe you those articles and will get to it as soon as I can.

Best regards

Hello Brendan, When I had my Startrite clone 20 years ago I was told to hold an abrasive stick or similar against the side of the blade that's doing the most cutting ie the side that it is wandering to. Just light touches for one full revolustion of the blade and just keep testing. It worked a treat. I will be buying one of the Warco machines next week, with a few other items. From my experience of bandsaws a 1 mm wander on a 100 mm cut isn't excessive. Granted, most of the bandsaws I've used have been old, but I've seen cuts wander by more than this.

Best wishes,

Chris

Thanks for all the info, the 6x4 Yahoo group was very useful and I foun

a good post there on how to align the blade. I (finally) got chance t have a play yesterday and I've got it set up a bit better, though by n means perfect. The blade still seems to want to cut inwards (towards th vice) even when twisted outwards. More experimentation needed. But, fo short cuts (say an inch thickness or less) it's acceptable and it sur saves a lot of time!
