UV attenuation

Hi

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a material that will attenuate UV, but not completely block it. I'm using a Q-Panel test chamber (Xenon arc lamp), which more or less resembles the solar spectrum. My interest is in measuring the UV content spectrally etc. I'm using GaAsP photodiodes along with a an 8micron fiber. Both saturate within the chamber. Does anybody know of a material that will attenuate the UV content of the spectrum. Hopefully it might be something readily available.......

The attenuation depends on the thickness of the material. Try using a thin coating.

I understand this - Beers Law etc. But a thinner coating of what?!

You could use poly-methyl methacrylate (e.g. Plexiglas from degussa, e.g. Plexiglas Superclear). They have both UV-transparent and non-transparent grades. Methacrylates are usually very stable against UV-radiation. If the available sheets are too thick you could try to dissolve them and using this coating solution.

You could also try to use nanoparticles like ZnO, TiO2 as UV-absorbers.
