The maker decided to create a 64mm ducted fan thruster assembly using 3d printing techniques. This project resulted in a unit that incorporates a translucent cylindrical shroud surrounding an internal multi-blade impeller. The entire structure is constructed using PETG material, and the assembly is powered by an A2212 2700kv motor.

During the construction phase, the maker used 3d printing to fabricate the assembly. After the printing process was finished, the maker tested the unit by running the motor. The unit generated 300g of thrust when operating on 3S power. The resulting duct thickness measures 1.5mm, and the overall fan diameter is 64mm.

One aspect that stands out is the material choice; using PETG for the entire build seems like a smart call for a high-stress component. However, during the testing period, the motor became slightly warm after a forty-second run at full throttle. The maker notes that the next step is planning a test using 4S power.

This build presents a functional 64mm thruster. The maker is looking to expand the testing parameters by moving to a 4S setup in the near future.

I think the use of PETG for the entire construction is very smart. It seems like a good choice for the structural integrity of a component that must withstand the forces generated by the internal impeller, while still being printable.

For a variation, the maker could consider reinforcing the duct structure with a different material. This could potentially improve thermal management, which may help address the motor warming up during extended periods of high-power operation.
