It was pretty simple back in those days. There wasn't a lot of computer-generated graphics, digital displays, and the like.

If I recall correctly, it was pretty much like this:

(Poor ASCII art follows, but when visualizing this you have to imagine the room being populated with a lot of white shirts, narrow ties, pocket protectors, and crew-cuts)

(Some guy stands here and writes on the plastic with a grease pencil)

----------------------------------------------------------------------- | Wall with a sheet of edge-lit plastic |----------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------- ------------------ ----------------- | | | | | | | The guy that | | The guy that | | The guy with | | counts backwards | | pushes the | | the radio that | | from 10 | | button to make | | talks to the | | | | smoke & fire | | astronaut |

--------------------- ------------------ -----------------

-------------------- ------------------ ----------------- | | | | | | | The guy with | | The guy that | | The guy that | | the biggest | | flips a lot of | | they send out | | slide rule | | switches and | | for more smokes| | | | presses buttons| | and coffee |

--------------------- ------------------ ----------------- | |---------(He's the most photogenic and shows up in all the pictures)

Anyone remember anything else?

;-)
