I'm looking for any further information anyone can supply about a Mig-21FL in Indian service painted with large blue circles all over the topsides. I'm wondering if there were more than one painted this way, and whether it was camouflage or some sort of recognition marking. Also, the one photo I've found online makes it appear that the plane might have been painted aluminum (except certain areas like the rudder) as opposed to bare metal. Any help appreciated.

I believe the Indian MiG 21's were painted with the circles, as well as stripes and maybe squares, for Air Combat Training. I've seen photos of yellow, blue green and red circles. The circles on individual aircraft seemed to be all one color. Most aviation magazines dealing with modern aircraft have these illustrated at some point... Let me check through my stacks and see what I can find.
