Re: Intel's Xeon 3.06 Processor vs Pentium 4 Processor @ 3.20GHz

check the BUS speed and if it has hyperthreading or not.

I think XEON processors also have more Level 1 or Level 2 cache which should speed things up.

Check

to see if they have any benchmarks.

I'd be surprised if they're worth the added price. The expanded cache on these processors is useful for apps that require repeated access to the same data (like databases or web servers I suppose). I'm not sure what kind of data access patterns SolidWorks follows but I have a feeling it doesn't fall into the category of "server".

Try calling SW to see if they have an opinion.

Oops! They are Xeon processors...

Larry, we have these Dell's at work; front side Bus,Xeon processor, 3.06Ghz, HT they work great with SWX. I have HP machine at home with same HT, 3.06Ghz but Pentium (not sure about the Bus speed). the work machine seems faster but has only 9 processes running compared to 28 processes on HP.

I highly reccommend these

Just Ordered the 650 from DELL with the 3.06MHz Xeon chip. I'm looking at September 9th as a delivery date! These must be in pretty high demand I would guess.
