[HO] Andrews freight car trucks

I need a set of Andrews freight car trucks for a project I'm working on. The basic car body is an MDC gondola, so it's not worth using overly-expensive trucks on the project, but I see that there are several in the $3 price range - Accurail, Eastern Car Works, Tichy Train Group and Red Caboose.

Any comments on the relative merits of these products, both in terms of detail and rolling quality? The wheels will be swapped out with Intermountain Railway Co. wheels.

Mark,

I have used the Accurail trucks with metal wheels(I think Intermountain, maybe P2K). I did use the Reboxx 'exact' tool to ream out the journal area(standard practice on all new projects).

I've got some Accurail's too and added P2K metal wheels. I didn't ream the journals but they operate and roll fine. Bruce

The ECW trucks are losers. They are styrene, not delrin and will wear out quickly. They also tend to fall apart. The RC trucks may be the Accurail trucks. RC uses them for some truck models. I would go with the Accurail.

I have used Walthers Andrews trucks under a Sunshine epoxy work train (ATSF prototype). They worked out very well. Since they are painted grey, they show up under the cars and look good. I did change the wheels out, I think for LifeLike.
