Marx streamline train

Any small Lionel or American Flyer transformer will work. You can usually pick one up at train shows quite reasonably. But first, I suggest a couple of more tests on your old unit:

1. You mentioned testing the output with a voltmeter. Was this with the transformer connected to the track? If so, disconnect the transformer and test again. If it works, the trouble is not in the transformer.
2. If the transformer is dead when connected to the track, start removing one track section at a time and see if the problem goes away. One track section may have a short in it. If so, check the insulating paper where the ties are crimped to the center rail. A piece of electrical tape can be used for a repair.
3. Unplug the transformer from the wall, then open the case and check for a broken wire. The most likely place is where the wires from the windings are connected to the terminals.

If none of these things are the trouble, you probably need a new transformer.

Lots of Marx stuff on Ebay. Just track it for a few weeks. Good chance your transformer will come along.

Hi guys and thanks for the replies. I managed to open the transformer and clean the contacts, it works now but is not in good shape and should be replaced if the train set is used. Jerry

I've had a lot of old Marx come through my shop and the MRC Tech-II O27, or the new Tech-4 600, AC transformer will work just fine with it. MSRP is $79.98, but you can find them at discount almost anywhere.
