Bending Rolls?

Do you tend to use bending rolls to set flexible track (after sliding it out from the sleepers!) to your required diameter, to counteract any tendency not to follow you desired curve, or to cause binding on the curves?

Not sure what they are ! Seems very complex way of doing it and would be suprised if anyone recommends it. My simple method (dont know how its supposed to be done) is to start at the fixed end (point or whatever) if theres only one and pin as go along. Do start and end connection with a straight for couple of inches putting extra pins in to ensure smooth join (every sleeper then every 2 sleepers). The next foot or so should be curved to the correct position then the rest left to its own devices, pin 6-8 inches then curve some of the 'left to own devices' till its length back to foot or so. To summarise :- Idea is to have a rolling working section. Foot/18 inches in correct position, pinning 6 inches, rest ignored. The 6 inches being pinned, usually push pins in part way till all in place, ensure sleepers at right angles and correct distance apart, push pins in rest of the way. If finish is not to be joined then just end with extra pins but first cut to give ends parallel and file to accept joiners. If finish is to join layed track then when get close as in last 6-12 inches overlaps laid track, stop and cut track parallel and in correct position for join. Make length slighly longer and file back rather than too short.

Its the sleepers at right angles that holds track to curve and at correct guage.

Hope not too garbled, Simon
