Just bought the Bachmann EE Type1 BoBo Green with Indicator Discs (32-027).
Excellent model, great runner. However, I can't remember the disc codes nor find me old book with said codes in.
Any help much appreciated.

Just the job, John, thanks. I think those apply to LMR as well.
What has thrown me though is that there are six possible positions for the discs at each end of the loco.
Tommy
As long as everyone else standardised to their region !... :~)
Seriously, the SR had their own headcode system until steam ended, it was a
6 disc system were all the other regions work on a 4 disc system.Jerry wrote in >Message-id:
Thanks, Jerry, it's all coming back to me now. On my region (LM) the "middle" two disc positions on the early diesels would be left blank. Only the SR would use those... err.. I think.
Tommy
Not so, if you check carefully there are 6 lamps but only 4 have discs, the top one and the bottom three, these lamps should be white. The other two lamps in the middle level are tail lights and should be red. For some strange reason Bachmann have painted all six lights red which helps cause confusion. Note that the discs don't fit centrally over the lamp, when the disc is unfolded and thus showing white the lamp shows through the hole in the bottom half of the disc. The disc was usually folded down so the top half covered the hole so the bottom half disc showed plain green and covered the lamp. The disc could also be folded up, in this case the hole showed a small white circle from the white paint showing through and the lamp would be exposed below. I've never seen any official use for this position described but they are seen that way in photos sometimes. Note the red tail lights were seldom if ever used in the green days as the rules required an oil tail lamp which would be on the lamp iron above the electric tail light.

I think 10201 - 10203 were the only diesels provided with 6 discs. Keith Make friends in the hobby. Visit Garratt photos for the big steam lovers.
No quite, the LMR/ER/WR men would need to use them if their working was going to travel over SR metals (London trip workings for example).

Yes Keith thanks, I've checked this time wearing my bi-focals! and see what you mean.
Many thanks for that Keith.

They didn't, none of the LM, E or W steam locos had the extra lamp irons needed for this and the diesels did not have the extra discs so they must have managed without. The SR code being route based instead of class based it was easy enoiugh to make sure that the routes the foreigners used did not need the extra lamps/discs. Keith Make friends in the hobby. The Southern Region used discs to indicate which route a train was to take. All other regions used them to indicate the type of train.
John.
there was also the class 70 electric trio (CC1, CC2 & CC3) but they were all later fitted with roller blind 2 character headcodes
