H&M Walkabout

Hi all.

While I remember, Happy New Year!

A quick question. I have acquired an H&M Walkabout hand held controller, and I need to know what power supply it should take - is it a pure 12v DC, or does it take 16v AC, like the Gaugemaster Hand Helds?

TIA,

Ian J.

I've got a couple of secondhand boxed examples of these in the shop. If you don't get a definitive answer before Tuesday ring me after 10.00am and I should be able to extract the information from the original packaging. You can get the phone number from the shop website. Just put 53A Models into Google.

I have had a pair of these for ages and found them hard to use, always needing loads of filing to the rail and after trying to cut a point motor rod had managed to dent a big hole in one side of them.

So, when I went to my local model shop to get some track I was going to get a new saw to cut it. However, after a quick demonstration of how to use them properly (!) decided to get a new pair and try them.

What can I say, they are so simple and have saved so much time. It just goes to show that ready instructions shouldn't always be a last resort!

Thanks John & 53a Models!

Er, nope. No instructions on the casing at all!! No labels of anykind!

Many thanks John. Will contact you Tuesday if I don't get a suitable reply beforehand.

Have no idea. The only marking on it is at the bottom, 'HM Walkabout'. Tis a long slender black casing, with the momentum switch at the top (three positions, 1 2 or 3 dots), then there is the short out LED, followed by the throttle slider, the brake button, then the direction switch at the bottom.

Pretty certain its 16vAC input, 0-12vDC output. Likely to also work fine on 12v DC input as the rectifier will just send the DC the appropriate way.

Have just taken the 'risk' and plugged the Walkabout into the 16v AC output from my transformers, and all worked perfectly, so is definitely OK with 16v AC (worked on 12v DC too, on my old H&M Clipper)

Ta very much those who replied.

I have one and used to use 16V AC off of a Clipper.
