Pipe cutting

Hi

With a 5 cm diameter steel tube with 0.5 cm walls, what is the best way to cut through ensuring that it is a straight cut perpendicular to the sides?

Large chain style pipe cutter, dry saw or cold saw.

Hi

I phrased the question, it might be better to consider that all i have in the means of cutting equipment are the standard hacksaws, and also an angle grinder (115 mm).

I suppose more importantly is the fact that i need to be able to draw a line right round the pipe, firstly so the end meets the begging, and so that it is all with in the same plane perpendicular to the sides.

Take a plain square cut piece of paper and wrap it around the pipe. If the paper lays flat and the edge meets up, it will give you an edge that is straight and true to mark with. Cut with hack saw as close to line as you can and grind with angle grinder up to line. That I think will be pretty darn good for what you have to work with. Lane

A very thin cuttoff wheel for the right angle grinder. You can get ones that are 0.045" thick. They cut really fast, just don't let them bind or get side loaded. Always keep your face out of the plane of the wheel and always wear saftely equipment.

That one is easy. Wrap a piece of paper or cardboard around the pipe, and line up the edges. Then just trace the line.

Standard hose clamps work as well.....easier to hold in place either.. ;-)
