TIG electrode contamination question

Jun 17, 2006 1 Replies

Hello,

I am a novice making great progress with my SS manifold construction thanks to you polymaths here and on RCM group.

Is it possible to contaminate the electrode by just being to close to the weld pool. I am working in some cramped quarters and I cannot always see the tip. Few times I saw the arc change to telltale greenish which is a sign of contamination. The electrode is 1.5 La. The current is around 85 - 125 A
