Micafilm shrinking?

I need hints on getting micafilm to shrink. I've tried low heat and high, but it sure doesn't want to tighten up. Any help?

What colour are you using? Clear shrinks best and white is almost as good, but some coloured ones do not shring much.

You have to start off by getting it applied as tight as possible. Some colors shrink very little. I have found that clear shrinks best, blue is the worst. Good Luck Bill

I'm using light yellow (see-through). Not shrinking much at all

I've been using Micafilm for several (25) years. Here are a few tricks when using it:

Micafilm has a grain to it. It shrinks along the grain better than it shrinks across the grain. You have to line the grain spanwise to get good shrinkage. Another note, Balsarite tends to let go before yellow Micafilm shrinks. One trick is to put something over where the Micafilm is attached to the frame before applying heat. This will insulate the Balsarite mastic and prevent it letting go when the rest of the film shrinks. I've found that this "letting go" is what makes the covering appear not to shrink.

I used Sig Stixit, which is similar, if not exactly like Balsarite. It seems to hold well even when somewhat heated, but I wrapped to the other side to make sure it isn't slipping. Grain is spanwise, and this shrinkage is OK, but there is still wrinkles running chordwise. There seems to be almost no shrinkage in this direction. I'm considering stripping it and reapplying it as tight as possilble before shrinking.
