tempering springs

One old time gunsmith's trick was to put the spring(s) in a ladle, cover with bacon grease or oil, set the ladle in the forge, heat it until it bursts into flame, set it aside and let it burn out. Smokey but effective, not very nice in an enclosed area.


Make you hungry too -- if you used bacon grease.
