OT: US armed forces looking at alternative fuels

Short follow up to the alternative fuels threads.

It looks like the U.S. military is finely taking steps to have alternative fuels available in case of another oil embargo.

May also give civil aviation some relief from high fuel prices, or at least an alternative.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Later this year, a giant U.S. Air Force B-52 bomber will take off with a new kind of jet fuel that can be derived from coal or natural gas, setting the stage for the U.S. military to eventually burn a new formula that is not derived from crude oil.

The oil is processed from coal. I believe the State of Montana is indepenndantly proceeding with the development of the process because of their vast coal reserves. There is a pilot plant being built here in PA. north of Reading. The oil that is derived from coal is clean oil that burns much cleaner than present petroleum products. There is enough coal to last at least 300 years so they say.
