L.A. Blackout - Any word on the real cause?

LA Blackout of 9/12/05 - The first news reports are rather vague and describe electrical crews connecting the wrong "wires" to the wrong transmission line, one that could not "handle" large amounts of power.

Does anyone have a more detailed explanation about what really happened?

From my point of view, I figured out something had happened, but did not know that there was anything serious going on until I watched TV news. I do get power from LADWP.

I have a wireless annunciator system used to replace an old bell circuit with shorted wires. When power goes on after a failure, the "bell" rings. My wife looked for whoever rang the bell but without success--there was no one there. I noticed that the clock on the microwave oven was blank and blinking. The clock display on the gas range was blinking but telling correct time. I heard no sound emanating from my computer UPS, but I was not near it at the time. I was listening to the radio. There may have been a very short dropout.
