We only need a modern version of 8086/80286/80386 using modern fabrication process. Then we give up fancy GUI and roll back to text-mode MS-DOS with english-only software like WordPerfect, Lotus, Harvard Graphics. No games, no videos, not even sound. :)

Well... should we go that? Should the world do that? That's a lot of SACRIFICE!!!

Considering that we only began to live after getting GUIs we shouldn't even think of giving up some.

Regards, H.

WordPerfect for DOS has an excellent Print Preview.

You can see pictures in Print Preview.

That's sufficient. :)

Could we give up internet and switch back to Novell Netware? Well...

yes, and I will buy my longed-for Commodore 64, and I will play Ghostbusters, Raid over Moscow, Impossible mission and Ikari warriors until the sun goes out. and with it the 1541 drive. yipee!!

**** COMMODORE 64 BASIC V 2.0 **** 64 K RAM SYSTEM 38911 BASIC BYTES FREE READY.

It would be interesting if someone make WordPerfect for DOS print to PDF. Then users can no longer worry about printer drivers problem.

I am such a complete nerd that I remember this commodore boot screen by heart! and despite being a nerd, I ended up as an electrical engineer!

These days, it's hard to shy away from electronics and internet no matter what job you ended up as. :)

Nobody worries about PDF drivers for DOS and why bother? If you want back to the stone age, what are you whining here, take a pen and paper and you be fine. If that is too modern for you take a stone and a chisel.

Once an organization gains any influence, it will be corrupted from both within and without. Edmund

Wordstar 3.3/4.0 does NOT have print preview. Then WordPerfect 5.1 offers print preview, which forced Wordstar to offer one. I think it's Wordstar 6.0 ... cannot quite remember. By then everyone (including me) had moved to WordPerfect 5.1.

Microsoft Word for DOS wasn't that great back then, until Windows 3.0. But some users liked WYSIWYG. Not me though. Print Preview was good enough.

WordPerfect for Windows is still available. But you need older versions to convert WordPerfect for DOS documents to PDFs.

Stone age doesn't have pen, paper and ink! It took a lot of time for human to discover paper-making, by China! ;)

And ... nobody was/is whiing.

We are just talking about history of word processors and type-writers.

You can use Google Search or A.I. to find out. Bed-time reading for you.

Stone tablets are supposed to last longer than paper and ink. And using hands to do everything means zero need for fossil fuel and electricity! :)
