The dangers of using too many volts and amps from a power adapter

This post makes me think that perhaps there should be a group titled alt.electrical.technicians. That way these kinds of questions could be passed off to the folks that deal with this kind of stuff. Not that many of the fine engineers out here can't answer the questions...it just seems there are numerous posts that are simple in nature....Ross

Measure the voltage under load. Without a load, it is very likely that the output will rise to the peak voltage rather than the average voltage. This is particularly true if there is a capacitor on the output.

Not if it is a switcher design. It will hold the voltage very tightly throughout its rated spec.

The smaller "ripple voltage" will grow as the load increases (in some cases), but the regulated end product voltage will not if the regulation point is taken from the output.

Oh Just Do it ~ or get the Exact rating Adapter from the OEM.

I do it all the time };-)

Figure + - 5%~10%~20% is Safe depending on Quality & Design Sturcture = Motor vs Semiconductors 10% Motor only 20% & Sensitive Solid Sate 5%

Even so: Some SS are Tough Stuff with the same Voltage Parameters.

Perhaps you would care to post a link to the Charter for the group? You seem to know its contents.

"should be a group" Very different than "is a group".

I was asking for a link to the Charter for a.e.electrical. I have often wondered what the original intentions for it were..

Correction....for many of the fine engineers on this newsgroup the questions are very elementary.... My appoligies for the error....Ross

news:sci.electronics.basics or news:sci.electronics.repair would be a good place to redirect these questions.

Hey Roy, not my intention.....I just thought that it would be nice if the simpler posts would were not here...Ross

Yeah... this group just gets flooded with soooo much high level engineering discussion that there is just no room for it... Right... NOT!

Who the hell do you think you are? I simply pointed out a couple places to ask the question. Tell us, Roy, did your mother have any kids who didn't have brain damage?

If anyone here was ever dipped in shit, all you have to do is look in the mirror to see it. Isn't it about time to clean all that shit off yourself, and clean up your sorry act?

Ross, You may be a fine engineer but you also sound smug. Why did you not think to briefly answer the posters question. Also please be aware that this newsgroup is read by a vast aray of folks with different skill levels, mostly they are trying to gain a better understanding of elec eng & the simple Q & A help a good deal. Pete.

Ross might be smug but he's not stupid. He's not wrong either. (I hope you know that you're answering an artice that is four months old and top-posting to boot!) BTW, there *is* a group called sci.electronics.basic where these questions will be answered without disturbing your sensibilities.
