Idle automotive question

CERTAIN Ford Vehicles have a 'corresponding other brand' that use the same key blank. Otherwise.. sorry. Mazda is the one I believe..

you got to go 'same brand' GEO is the same as the same model NEW Chevy's however they just 'rebranded' the Geo line. so its not different

Thats why I got 50 something GM blanks, 30+ Ford? and 20 ish Chryslers? Never mind the foreign.

I'm just wondering: Is it possible to get two cars from different manufacturers keyed the same? For example, Nissan and GM?

Is it even possible to give a straightforward answer on this, or is it something dependent on a huge number of variables?

If the autos are in the same family, yes. If they are different, then it's quite unlikely.

Familys include:

Chrysler - Dodge - Plymouth - Imperial

GM - Chevrolet - Pontiac - Buick - GMC

Ford - Lincoln - Mercury -

Nissan - Datsun

As for Nissan and GM, it's incredibly unlikely.

Stormin Mormon gave an answer that is mostly correct. Give us year make and model and it would be easier to be definitive.

Yes, it is possible, provided they share a "common" platform, i.e.Ford and Mazda,(owned by Ford) AND both models fall under the same "code-series"----If your in the trade, you understand; If you don't understand, go ask a locksmith- It's pretty straightforward....

In the examples you gave. Nissan and GM it might be possible. Depending on the type of keyways involved. Some of the Nissan keys will fit in some of the GM 10 cut locks. We have some pick keys cut on Nissan blanks that we use for Nissan, Chrysler, & GM. It saves on the number of keys used to unlock cars.

Yes-70's 5-cut Ilco/Ez/Code series

1167FD/H51/FAO-1863(Primary) S1167FD/H50/FBO-1863(Secondary) Both Hummer and Ford use this Code series. Some explorers have them up to 1992.And some Aerostar use the H50 for the glove box separately. Also, given the usual variances with manufactures-you could possibly see them on later.

Later, goma.
