abrasiveness of dacron

Aug 11, 2005 1 Replies

Someone has proposed a protective layer of oiled Dacron-Mylar-Dacron (common eltecric winding insulation I bet) between a steel shaft and babbit bearing going crosscountry together.

If some shifting occurs is the dacron likely to scratch the babbit?

Thanks,

Dan T

No. Unless it gets some grit, such as sand, in it.
