can anyone suggest good graduate schools for materials science, polymer science or closely related area. most of ud are aware of the reputation about strong schools like stanford, MIT, harvard , UC berkeley ...can someone give me a list of decent schools having a good/strong research graduate program in this field??

The amswer may depend on exactly which area of material science you are interested in: metallurgy, glass, ceramics, polymers, semiconductors, etc. Also, you say materials science -- does this differ significantly from materials engineering?
University of Missouri at Rolla has a well regarded materials program.
Alfred is very good in glass.
Univ. of Southerm Mississippi has a big polymer science program.
