SUNY Stony Brook. The Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level; appointment at a higher level may also be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications. Candidates are sought with backgrounds and research interests in any of the core ME areas with demonstrated applications to engineering at the micro/nanoscale. Special consideration will be given to candidates in the area of tribology. An earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field is required as is a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, the ability to establish and sustain an externally funded research program. We seek a highly motivated individual with strong potential for leadership in the field. She/he will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in both the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and other departments at the University as well as the Center for Functional Nanomaterials at nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory and to work with industry on a variety of projects through existing special programs. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae containing both teaching and research plans, copies of selected publications, and a list of four or more professional references to Professor S. We expect the successful candidate will join the department at the start of the Fall 2004 semester.
