Job Description: Our client has a very well defined process which will accommodate an engineer with a foundational understanding of reliability (either hardware or software). The ideal candidate would be someone with 3 to

5 years of systems reliability experience or someone with a degree in reliability from Arizona University or Maryland. Candidate must have a Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. Communication skills and ability to create rapport are key to this position. Must demonstrate the ability to drive team meetings and be outgoing and sociable.

An alternative candidate would be an Industrial Engineering or Operations Research graduate with no reliability experience and having strong math and modeling skills and good with people skills (diplomatic, easy to get along with, able to facilitate a group).

Day to day activities

- Write a reliability program plan that defines what reliability practices will be applied to the program and a supporting schedule.

- Predicting reliability growth curves in the design phase

- Establishing the voice of technology reliability targets

- Hardware reliability predictions based on vendor, test and field data primarily using reliability block diagrams

- Model hardware and software reliability growth (Duane plots and Musa plot respectively)

- Reporting on reliability readiness at the subsystem and system level (combining hardware and software)

Hardware versus Software

- Both Hardware and Software reliability analysis

- Hardware is broken down into mechanical and electronics (both will be used)

The tool suites we use are: (the learning curve is pretty steep on the important ones)

- Relex (w/ Telcordia) (reliability modeling)

- Reliasoft (reliability modeling)

- Mathmatica (for hard core math)

- Flexsim (for simulation)

- Minitab (for statistics)

- Internally developed tools

- Clarify, Pinnacle, Clearquest and TARS (for bug tracking)

- For requirements work which may be a real plus is Doors

Required Technical Skills:

- Reliability analysis

- Program plans

- Predicting Growth

- Hardware Predictions

- Model Hardware growth (Duane) plots

- Model Software growth (Musa) plots

- Report readiness (both subsystem and system level)

- Tool Suites: Relex, Reliasoft, Mathmatica, Flexsim, Minitab, Clarify, Pinnacle, Clearquest, TARS, Doors
