Baffling assignment questions - please help

I have an assignment, Q1 and Q2 look very similar:

  1. Draw the typical equilibrium diagram for a binary alloy forming a continuous series of solid solutions.
  2. Draw the typical equilibrium diagram for a binary alloy forming eutectic mixttures.

What is the difference between these two questions? Are they both asking for the same diagram? Doesn't a binary alloy form both eutectic mixtures and a series of solid solutions?

looks like a simple question that any relevant text book or set of lecture notes would answer.

In the first, both elements are completely soluble in each other at any concentration. In the second, a eutectic is formed at one particular alloy composition. I'd suggest you look up the information in a standard phase diagram book.

Thanks. Got it. All sorted now.
