Another VFD question

I'm getting ready to wire up a 1HP rated Hitachi VFD to a 1 HP motor. The VFD requires 3 phase input and from what I've read here there's a good possibility that it will work OK connected to single phase if the load is derated. So I'm wondering if the 1 HP 3 phase motor will draw enough current less if loaded lightly. Thanks, Eric

Yes.

The L100 SJ100 models allow single phase input, for all HP ratings from

3HP on down to fractional with no derating of output power. Only their SJ300 wants 3 phase input. Ignator

I got what I thought was a pretty good explanation of this subject when I posed a similar query to the vfd forum on Practical Machinist.

Good point, and I learned from experience that the SJ300 senses for three phase and faults out if its not there. They also make an SJ200 that is just like the SJ100 as far as I can tell.
