Bandsaw tire

The tire on my 14" import bandsaw started loosening up, keeps kicking the blade. Looks like it was never glued down, just used the stretch to hold it in place. Any suggestions for glue or sources for a new one??

Contact cement, the kind you use on formica.

I's suggest Barge Cement. It's contact cement 'par excelance', and my favorite. The same stuff shoemakers use for glueing soles on shoes. (It'll fix everything except the crack of dawn or a broken heart.) You won't find it on most hardware stores' shelves, but it's well worth the effort to order on the web and pay a little shipping to get it. See for example:

A 2 oz. tube of Barge would be more than enough for a couple of bandsaw tires. A quick acetone wipe of the wheel and the inside of the tire before applying the cement wouldn't hurt.

Good luck,

Jeff

Memphis Machine is where I picked up my tires for my saw at. Prices are good. They sell cement for adhering tires as well.

My tires are not glued down either. I have a recessed rim on the wheels and from what I was told if the wheel has a recess it does not have to be glued down. Got that info from Carter Products who is also a major seller of bandsaw tires etc.

You should be able to buy a tube at your friendly shoe repair shop, I did.

After similar troubles with an 18" Jet bandsaw, I'm trying the blue urethane tires from Woodcraft <

Nothing basically wrong with the old standby rubber tires either. If they're put on properly they last perhaps ten years, depending on service. I've had the ones on my Boice-Crane 14" saw for about twenty years now. They're 'checked', but still tight and driving the blade fine.

Think of it as a dollar a year for as long as they will last.

I hit it with contact cement, seems to run fine. For how long, who knows?

Also, it looks like the Harbor Freight units have the tire listed as a replacement part. I'll have to check > The tire on my 14" import bandsaw started loosening up, keeps kicking
