Best way to melt silver in small quantities?

All,I'm getting ready to do casting for the first time, but don't know whatto shop for.What would be moderate cost and relatively safe?  Dental oven?Oxyacetylenerig?  Propane?  Something else?Please advise,The Eternal Squire

For many years I used an acetlyene/air torch to melt silver and goldfor centrifugal and vacumn casting. Used a "Prestolite" torch like theplumbers use for sweating copper tube. You will need a crucible to meltin, available from jewerely supply houses. I used Borax as a cover fluxand a carbon arc gouging rod as a stirring stick. Propane torches donot have enough heat to do a good job melting silver/gold. I also usedan electric melting pitcher, as well. It was shaped like a pitcher witha pouring spout and a handle and had electric heating elements madeinto it's sides. It would melt up to about 8 oz of metal and hold it atcasting temp until needed, at which time I just poured it into the moldwith a vac pump sucking on the backside.
