I'm getting ready to do casting for the first time, but don't know what to shop for. What would be moderate cost and relatively safe? Dental oven? Oxyacetylene rig? Propane? Something else?

For many years I used an acetlyene/air torch to melt silver and gold for centrifugal and vacumn casting. Used a "Prestolite" torch like the plumbers use for sweating copper tube. You will need a crucible to melt in, available from jewerely supply houses. I used Borax as a cover…
