I am soon bringing home a mill that I will hopefully keep. It is themill that I brought up last week asking about fish scale pattern(flaking). 1976 model 1 HP rated step pulley motor. I have a VFD that I bought a year ago on eBay that was not properlydescribed (sold as "motor speed control" or some such). I know that itpowers up. It is pictured here, along with PDF manuals, wiring schematic,closeups of data plate, etc. is rated for 1 HP, 240v, single phase input. Logically speaking, Icannot see any reason why it could not run a 1 HP Bridgeport mill from240v single phase. I would prefer using this VFD rather than my phaseconverter, since it is quieter and more efficient and gives some extracontrol and dynamic braking via a brake resistor. My phase converterconsumes something like 500 watt just spinning its idlers.I would like to confirm that my assumptions are correct and that Ihave not missed anything major and that this VFD is usable for myintended purpose.Also, - what would be sensible parameters for acceleration/decelerationtimes,- Does adding a separate ON/OFF/REVERSE switch make sense, or wouldyou just use keypad. - Would you use an extra disconnect switch or would just a 220v plugsuffice - Can I mount it on the body of the mill (drill/tap little 10-32 holeson the mill column), or is it a bad idea due to vibration. the brake resistor is used to dump excess energy - the controller by itself can handle some level of decel load, but beyond that it needs a place to dump power - if you overload on decel (for example you have spun up something with large rotational inertia, like a 12 inch facemill, and then press stop, it will probably overload and then freewheel to a stop

Using a 1725 rpm motor..its normal to set the high side at 120 hz. Which gives you nearly 3000 rpm at the motor..no issues known.

With a mill..gearing up and down using the change pulleys gives you the best of both worlds. Figure the speed and feeds of a 3/16" endmill. ..you NEED those high RPMs with small cutters. Bridgeport spindles are rated for 5000 rmp. Take advantage of it.

OK, I take your word for it, and will set the VFD so that at the highest pulley setting on high range, I could get to 5k RPM.
