flashback arrestors on torch/regulators? and other newbie questions

Hi all



Finally I got myself a nice light duty Surefire torch set and I got also combination flashback arrestors/check valves for the torch handle. Since I saw some sparks flying a bit too close for my comfort to the hoses ( Yes I'm the jumpy kind) I plan also on getting arrestors for the regulators. My question is, would the combination of two sets of arrestors/check valves restrict the gas flow? Other question is I noticed the acetylene regulator creep from 5psi to about 7 psi when cutting. Something wrong with the regulator or the operator?

Cheap single stage regulators. If they work keep 'em. If you decide they don't work very well then look for 2-stage regulators built by one of the majors (these can be rebuilt forever).

I used a torch professionally for years in a shipyard. I tried cutting with an oxy-acetylene setup at home with some cheap regulators and just couldn't get a decent cut. After a long time I ran across some 2-stage regs made by Marquette, NOS from the 1960s. Wow, what a giant difference! Now and forevermore I'm a fan of real good quality regulators on home tanks.
