Metallityon

I'm hoping this might catch the eye of a Finlander in the group.

I have an old booklet printed in Finland at the turn of the century (the previous one, that is, around 1900) titled "Metallityon: Opas Maalaisille" by Tieto Ja Taito. It has a picture of a lock and two keys on the cover:

Just wondering if it sparks anyone's interest, or if someone can tell me what it's about. Locksmithing?

I'd send a digital copy of the complete booklet to someone who wanted to help me figure it out. It was from my Finnish stepfather's estate, and was his father's who I know nothing about. thanks,

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Hey Ken,

I sent off a note about your question to a Finnish live steamer of some reknown. Here it is in it's entirerty, and his answer.

Brian Laws> One of the regulars on rec.crafts.metalworking has a book that belonged to

Not quite, but a funny title anyway:

A METALWORKING GUIDE FOR PEASANTS

That "peasants" can be "farmers", as well.

The subheader (Tieto ja Taito) translates to "Knowledge and Skill".

It appears that this book is # 43 in a series.

The publisher, Werner Söderström Ltd, still exists.

Hope this helps...

Thanks! That takes some of the mystery out of it. Odd, but Finnish doesn't seem to be included in any of the online translation sites I can find.

Fairly influential place for its size. Builds the worlds biggest ice breakers and has the worlds largest telephone manufacturer. Not bad for three million people.
