Need a lead on an EDM shop that will do a one-off job

Hey group,

I'm building a custom pistol for myself. (1911 baby!) I have a slide with no cocking serrations. Would like to get a 20 lines/inch checkering job done in this area. Slide is 4340. I'd need two rectangular-shaped areas 1.270" by 0.840" and two areas 0.930" by

0.840".

I think this would be an EDM job... if anyone has suggestions I'm all ears. But willing to pay the $ for a job well done.

Can be done with a fly-cutter in a mill.

Hey Gunner, this could be something done on a shaper? I've never used nor even seen one in person, but I do have a rough idea of how they work.

Either way, I don't have a shaper, so I'd still need a lead on a shop that could do it.

I put a pic and description in the dropbox. Filenames are

1911_slide.jpg and 1911_slide.txt

Just for your edification. :-)

Why not use a checkering file? Isn't that what they're for? (I'm no gunsmith)

This is the perfect job for a shaper with a vise with a swivel base. Ive done many checkerings and groovings on slides on a shaper.
