Dear SirJohn:

Architectural and Engineering firms are straining for employees in the USA. Does that help?

Actually, it depends on the state. *My* state requires 4 years, but others allow it after only 2 (plus college), and there is reciprocity... with certain caveats.

If he wants to go to northern Alberta he could obtain work on the Tar Sands project in Fort MacMurray. Good pay but accomadations are a problem. Anywhere in Alberta is good for a Mechanical Engineer to obtain employment.

How can this person be a recent graduate and almost have his/her PE already? It takes 4 years of working under s PE to take the test in most states. Gradute degree(s) can help reduce that time.

Well, I need more money, and don't want to move, and I have a PE in hand.

Try Monster or other ways of looking for jobs.

Sorry it is not the PE test. It is a license test, the first one. After passing this test, he can work under an engineer and get his PE.

So he now needs a job.

Dear SirJohn:

The test is the "Fundamentals of Engineering" (FE) or "Engineer In Training" exam.

There are architectural and engineering firms that are straining for employees. I am surprised he has not been contacted. But this may depend on the school, whether or not he attended career fairs, and his major (which you said was mechanical) and area of study.

If employers aren't coming to him, then he'll have to go to the school's placement division and start talking. It is shame he didn't get friendly with this person (or even his own counselor) here until the end.
