Hello,
My question does not relate directly to mechanical engineering but I'm hoping that someone with a good knowledge of Ansys will be able to help me.
I am trying to model an electric overhead travelling crane and am having a little trouble with the contact between the crane and the support beams. The effect I am trying to acheive is similar to that of a car on the road i.e. the contact is compressive only and when tension occurs the wheel lifts off the road/beam.
I am currently using a 2D 2Node contact element with a height between the nodes of 300mm; the lower node being the level of the support beam and the upper node being the level at which the loads are applied to the crane. If a sufficient horizontal force is now applied to the crane at the upper node level the wheels at one side of the crane should lift.
I'm sure my explanation could be a little better but hopefully this will do as a starter.
OK, so my questions are then, what is the correct contact element to use because I am having trouble acheiving the desired effect? and am I trying to model the element correctly with a height of 300mm or does this sound odd to you regular Ansys users.
I have a .lgw file available if anyone would care to help me out, any advice would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Lee
