Came across this afternoon... I know the subject alludes to photography equipment, but read on.

This might be a real opportunity for gun owners. Write articles for photography mags about starter pistols, fake guns, and real guns as well as getting a CCW - all directed at safer transport of cameras etc.

I'm never getting on a airliner again. I'll drive my car to the destination and at least pretend that I still have my freedom.

Understand the Warsaw conventions and get insurance. Understand how to pack equipment. Put it in the hold where it belongs.

I gave up airlines years ago. Other than freedom, a car is cheaper and usually faster. I also gave up spending my tourist $$ in places that don't recognize my CCW ;)

With delays and cancelations, a car is a safer bet. Plus you can stop and piddle anytime you wish. Route is based on receprocity status of states.

You need a good set of windscreen wipers when driving from the States to Europe :-)

Why go to Europe, they don't recognize my CCW ;)

Except for freedom, and time. What that means is that there is a "doughnut" where it is faster to drive, than try and go by plane, Adding up the time drive to the airport, wait at the airport, catch flight, wait at destination airport, transportation to actual destination; if T(flight)

have no problem with getting around the destination city.

My problem is that, seeing as how I can't secure my luggage, if anything should show up (or not show up) we have a "He said, she said" situation, and you know which bureaucrat is going to get the benefit of the doubt.

Not if you can drive fast enough. ;-)

It's simple to drive fast enough. It's another thing to keep up your speed -on- water.

Ever heard this song? Fifth verse, fourth line. If he can do it?

Beach Boys Lyrics - The Wanderer

The Wanderer Lyrics:

Oh well I?m the type of guy who will never settle down Where pretty girls are well, you know that I?m around I kiss ?em and I love?em ?cause to me they?re all the same I hug ?em and I squeeze ?em they don?t even know my name They call me the wanderer yeah the wanderer I roam around around around...

Oh well there?s flo on my left and there?s mary on my right And janie is the girl with that I?ll be with tonight And when she asks me which one I love the best I tear open my shirt I got rosie on my chest ?cause I?m the wanderer yeah the wanderer I roam around around around...

Oh well I roam from town to town I go through life without a care ?til I?m as happy as a clown With my two fists of iron and I?m going nowhere

I?m the type of guy that likes to roam around I?m never in one place I roam from town to town And when I find myself a-fallin? for some girl I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world Yeah I?m the wanderer yeah the wanderer I roam around around around...

Oh yeah I?m the type of guy that likes to roam around I?m never in one place I roam from town to town And when I find myself a-fallin? for some girl I hop right into that car of mine and ride around the world Yeah ?cause I?m a wanderer yeah a wanderer I roam around around around... ?cause I?m a wanderer yeah a wanderer I roam around around around...

Okay, so I'm late and catching up, but Larry Jaques wrote on Wed, 27 Sep 2006 09:35:38 -0700 in rec.crafts.metalworking :

Get an Aua-car. Built in propeller, water tight design, I think there was even a convertible option.

Finding a gas station though mid ocean can be a bitch.

Sure you can. When my cat did something bad, I would pick her up by the tail and put her under the outdoor water faucet. VERY unhappy cat but she learned ;)

So, you either need really good gas mileage, or a really big gas tank? ;-)

Yeah, I hate that. It may not be far as the albatross flies, but if the albatross has to walk and lug a gas can, those mid ocean combers can be a real pain to hike over.
