OT motor wiring

We are setting up a large pedestal grinder that we got cheap. I have determined that it is a dual voltage three phase motor, nine lead, "Y" connection. We are wondering what the two extra unmarked orange wires taped off are for??? Are they there to screw around with the heads of people like me who shouldn't be closer to electricity than on the end of an electrode holder? TIA, Randy

They could be wires for a motor protection circuit. Some motors have two extra wires coming out that are wired to a thermostatic switch inside the motor, and if the motor gets too hot, the switch opens and can interrupt the control power to the motor starter. If they are not used, they are commonly taped off like you described.
