Steel Rule Dies

Hi, all:-

Do presses for operating steel rule dies have to hold the die perpendicular to the cutting board, or could something like an arbor press with plates bolted onto it be used?

What's a good material for a cutting board? I'm thinking of using a food cutting board ex-Walmart.

Any suggestions (including to tell me to go buy a real press) appreciated.

Thanks! I managed to score some nice 1/4" polypropylene for a very good price (free) and it works quite nicely. The pressure is up around the most I'd want to put on a "3 ton" Chinese arbor press, though. If you look at the gearing, it needs either a pipe over the handle or a couple of guys my size pulling down on it, just to get halfway there. ;-) It cuts beautifully.
