Hi,
I was wondering what effect tarnish has on the performance of bushings?
I understand that brass is somehow "self-lubricating" (one of these days I'll take a minute to look at the crystal structure and read up on why this is), but anyway, that in summary brass against steel is low in friction and makes a good bearing surface if ball bearings are expensive or unecessary.
What happens if the bushing goes unused for a long while, and the surface tarnishes? Does it still exhibit the "self-lubricating" property, is it still low- friction, even though now you have steel against copper and zinc oxides instead of against brass?
thanks! -Bernard Arnest
