Unions

I've seen several posts by certain people who say unions have outlived their usefulness and are no longer needed.

If you feel this way you're in for a rude awakening some time in the future. Once the unions are gone you'll see. There have been many workers that are non-union that have ridden on the coattails of unions.

Many times the benchmark for workers for wages and benefits have been union workers, especially the UAW. There is also what is called the prevailing wage. Many wages in a community are based on benchmarks and prevailing wages.

Just wait. When all of this is gone we'll all be living in cardboard boxes like they do in Mexico. If you're a professional person it can happen to you, too.

This whole deal of illegal immigration, outsourcing - offshoring, H-1B abuses, and other things will serve to lower everyones wages, even among the professions. It's just a matter of time. In fact, it's happening as I write this. Some bigshot somewhere is hatching a plan to offshore your job or reduce your wages. You can take that one to the bank!

When this happens who will stand up for you? The government? Hah, Hah. You'll wish you had a union.

You just don't get it, do you? People with your mindset tend to be nothing short of users of society, and very undesirable to be around. Who the hell wants to be around anyone that feels the world owes them a living? Benchmarks established at the hands of greedy people represent nothing more than a benchmark that is doomed to fail.

The UAW is one of the worst of violators, and have single handedly driven the auto industry to other countries. Union workers made that real easy by slacking off, demanding more pay for less work, and ignoring even the most basic demands for quality. Too damned busy going to work stoned to do the work. I'm without words when I consider that workers that had nothing more than a lunchbox invested in their jobs were knocking down more than $25/hr when skilled trades weren't making anywhere near that amount. It's not a sign of a good thing, it's a sign of things out of control, doomed to collapse, as they've done. Had workers in this country kept their wits about themselves and worked for earned wages, perhaps the gap in pay wouldn't have been large enough for industry to move. We'll be doing good to have anything left on our shores in a few years if the trend continues.

Tell me-----what's best-----never being able to buy that boat you couldn't afford, or buying it, only to lose it because your job was lost because you priced yourself out of the market with unearned wages? Don't you lose by either choice?

You can put your union where the sun doesn't shine.

That's a "union thing."

In the REAL world, wages and other compensation are based on value received.

There wasn't ANY union involvement in the opening of my own business.

If ANYBODY was gonna' "offshore" my job, it would be ME!.......

....and, I'm pretty happy with myself these days, so that doesn't look like it's about to happen.

It also amazes me, that so many union folks I know are hunters and otherwise gun owners, but will vote for any democrat, even a clinton, because they're "looking out for the common man". News flash: they're looking out for themself, and are using you to get their way, that's all. Look what your democratic congress has accomplished (nothing). They wanted in to end the war, is the war over?

I learned everything I needed to know about unions years ago when I was setting up an assembly line. I was/am salaried, and asked about how we go about screening the applicants for the assembly jobs to make sure we get people who can, you know, read a drawing and follow instructions. The shocked/amused/amazed response was "You get the guys who have the most seniority and who post for it, regardless of their current role or talent".

I'm not sure how that benefits anyone. Certainly not a business trying to get the best people in a position.

Its also amazing that unions support the current clinton. How many union members remember that the first clinton signed nafta and gave china most favored nation status. That is a definate indicator of where the clintons loyality lie. As former union members now go to work as a part time wal-mart greeter they can tell others how the first clinton protected union jobs.

In our county, there was a VERY ugly strike when Tyson took over a local unionized meat packing plant, banished the union, and a bunch of guys were out of work for many months. Most never went back, and families of scabs vs. strikers are to this day not talking to each other. Clinton and Tyson were (are?) tight. And yet, these same people who were shit on by Clinton's contributors, will vote for her given the choice. That mental disconnect is just mind boggling.

And yes, I'll be writing letters to the editor in the local paper to help people connect the dots and remember who their friends aren't.
