Used Ultrasonic wlelder uses?

Does anyone have any ideas what a used ultrasonic welder would be useful for? At work we have one that is being disposed of. Always a scrounger I have an interest, but I don't know enough about the thing to know if it is useful in it's current state or has any " cool" hardware worth scrapping out of it.

Any ideas?

They're worth a pretty penny. A "Bronson" perhaps? A buddy used a few for welding printer ribons into loops a number of years ago when dot-matrix was king. Ebay!!!

If it's the kind I'm familiar with, it's used for welding plastic together. It's got a high power ultrasonic source, a transducer, and a method of transferring the energy into the part where it is needed. One example use would be joining the halves of AC adapter housings together. Branson is one manufacturer. It might be fun to fiddle with it (it would be for me), but I can't think of many uses outside of a production environment.

Depends where it is, and how much they want much for it - or "just get it out of here so we don't have to pay someone to disconnect and haul it away". But I'll bet it's worth more in complete and operable condition than it ever will be as parts.

I like equipment recycling. Just have to find the right person who can make good use of it.

It would be useful for upholstery shops, for duplicating the ribs and tucks in Naugahyde seat covers or making duplicate door panels. Repairing and making samples of plastic sheet goods - weld tarps into custom covers for any outdoor equipment you can name, weld strips of that big 'bubble wrap' into thermal swimming pool covers...

It is a Branson. I understand the principle behind the thing, but can't really think of much use for it outside of production.

It's not terribly big,(about 3' tall and maybe a 2' square footprint). I guess it if it follows me home so be it. The price would be right. Free.
