Does anyone know anything about old outboards? A friend of mine found this in a house clearance:

from being made in the USA and looking old we know nothing about it. Anyone got any ideas as to a maker? Or any other useful info?

Thanks & Regards

Came across quite a few pics on the 'net while researching Evinrude pumper but that's not one I recognise immediately. On the PDA at the moment, I'll have another look at some of the sites when I'm in front of a 'proper' pc tomorrow.

Nothing leaping off the page at me and it is quite a distinctive design. I reckon a post here

might pay dividends. Do report back on your findings Dan.

It's called a 'gentleman's outboard' . Built in the 1920's prior to the stock market crash. Originally these were sold primarily in New York City for use in upstate New York (where there were a lot of weekend resorts). They came with a fitted case. The gent would bring his outboard with him and use it on a rented boat. How yours got to the UK is probably quite an interesting story.
