Western snow plow with all hydraulics and controller

Well if it's a truck newer than 95 you won't find a conventional mount plate to fit it. Western doesn't make one. They only have the mounts for the newer minute mount style plows.

As for how well it will handle the plow. That depends a LOT on you. If you don't plow like a fool and pay attention to whet your doing it will handle it just fine. My plow truck is a 93 2500 and it has worn a plow every year since new. The only thing I have replaced that I actually attribute to the extra weight of the plow is a set of shocks and a steering stabilizer.

I would suggest that you add two items to the truck in addition to what it has if you plan on using the plow a LOT or if your hauling weight. One is an additional trans cooler with a separate cooling fan on it. Most of the racing type catalogs carry them as oil coolers for engines. Two is a good yellow beacon light. You will want it in operation when plowing and it doesn't hurt to run one if your loaded heavy.

Pete nailed it. You're trying to use a truck as a tractor and its just not built for it. It does help to not get in a hurry and go easy on it. Just be forewarned, you're gonna kill your truck.

If you have the window sticker it should say what options it has. You could also lookup the RPO code for the snowplow prep option and check to see if it's listed on the option label in the glove compartment.

2 or 4WD?

It would survive much better if you bought a snow blower. Better yet, sell it for enough money to buy both a big blower and a snowmobile. Your wife and kid will thank you for it. ;)

I can see a guy wanting one if he had a road which needed to be graded and/or snow-plowed several times a year, but you're an urbanite, Ig. Plow envy got ahold of you. I can grok it.

P.S: What did your Chebby dealer and insurance company say about plow use affecting your rates and vehicular lifetime? I'll bet you got two big, deep, frowny faces, I do.

That's certainly the way I've always looked at it, Pete.

If y'all choose to live with snow, ice, monsoonal rains, hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning storms, humidity, hail, wives, pets, and children, that's your choice. I like a little less drama in my life.

Earthquakes, what I've felt so far, I can handle. ;^)

On the bright side.... next fall ya will be able to sell it for some nice coin. You could pick up a nice snowblower or even yet a couple nice shovels for the kid. 50 feet of driveway is nothing unless its 5 foot deep in snow :-).

4WD

Between you and Karl, I think that you guys are right.

My driveway is only appx. 50 feet long.

Anyhow, I think that I got sidetracked on this snowplow and it is more than I (or my pickup) should handle.

That is my Dad's attitude. Must be a result of growing up in Pittsburgh and Worcester. I kind of like snow, but then I've missed out having to commute in the stuff.

Hey now, pets can be planned for.

The one's I've felt, I could handle. The one's I didn't feel, those disturbed me.

But I'm really bothered by the ones I haven't felt yet.

What's that Lassie? You say that Ignoramus30639 fell down the old rec.crafts.metalworking mine and will die if we don't mount a rescue by Thu, 25 Mar 2010 20:47:06 -0500:

like the old style mount that I prefer. I could mount my fisher plow faster than those minute mount new ones.

When you mount the attachment frame to the truck be sure to make it low enough that the plow angle pivot is vertical. And use a long enough lift chain so the plow can go down a little to follow the contours of the road.

Like others said, trans. temp. is the killer. Get a cooler(with a fan) and/or a trans. temp. gage.

And watch out for manholes and drain grates. Take notes or pictures of where you plan on plowing.

Agreed, I turn the TV on a few minutes before the news in case some new singer is performing. They have an extremely low opinion of the intelligence and maturity of their audience.

Most of TV is MBAs and empty talking heads these days. I watch the news, and a few old sitcoms. Even watching the news bothers me after my time in the Army where I produced and directed live daily half hour newscasts, while on duty as the broadcast engineer. We were allowed only one mistake per show, and there were no teleprompters. The 'broadcasters' (Military talking heads) prepared their own material and practiced before every newscast. I even had to slip into the studio to change camera angles between some shots, then back to the control room.

No sat TV here, just sub-basic cable.

ut in the country

s hassle. =A0I blow

That's an advantage of a snowblower over a plow. OTOH in my case the only good place to blow most of it is upwind. My neighbor and I clear large enough areas to turn around, he uses a 4WD ATV with a plow blade and I have the bucket loader. Both machines can pile the snow into this ridge along the border between our yards:

ATV is faster, I think mine is more fun.

How long is your driveway? I ask that because I don't think you live out in the country so it is likely short. A snowblower you walk behind would be a lot less hassle. I blow about 200FT and I never run out of room to put the snow in.
