where to buy mobil synthetic sch 634 for gearbox

I had to mill the end of my gearbox to accept a collet

During the process it ended up being easier to

take a part off after I had it mounted on the milling machine.

Anyway this caused the oil to leak out

The manufacture recommends Mobil synthetic sch 634

And there is a score of places that recommend it for band saw

Gear boxes to what have you.

I just need a quart or 2 and am having a hard time finding it

Something on line would be great as I live on Whidbey Island in Washington State.

And don't seem to be able to find it close by

I would be glad for any help wouldn't be bugging you

But hope some one knows and can save me a lot of trouble.

I have spent a couple hours looking and it hardly seems worth it

For a couple quarts I would like to stay with the recommended oil.

But I do have a couple courts of royal purple gear lube sitting on the shelf

Thanks

Boston Gear uses sch 634 in their worm gears as an option to increase capacity and sells it in quarts. Yikes - $32.01 for a quart from Motion Industries!

W.W. Grainger You might check their web site for a location near you. They have a outlet in Bremerton, WA. that has very little in stock, but gets deliveries from Seattle twice a day. There might be such an outlet near you.

Good heavens where were you last winter? I had two 55 gal barrelsof the stuff give to me cuz I have a waste oil furnace and a friend said he needed these two barrels to go away. It went away but not without a fight. That stuff has about 634 viscosity rating, look it up if you don't believe. I tore up two pumps on my furnace before I figured out what it was. The only way I could burn it was to preheat the oil tank to 110 degrees F with various electric heaters and such and then burn it. The same guy called the other day and said I have more oil for you. Don't know what it will be this time. Will let you know if it is the same. It is yours for the shipping and packaging if I get more. I don't know didly about shipping liquids, but my mom ships horse blood samples Fedex, so that might be a good place to start. Sincerely Lyndell

P.S To be honest I didn't even think abut keeping any after tearing up two oil pumps. That stuff is used in railroad locomotives and ski lifts etc.etc. Anyplace where something will not be maintained regularly is where it gets used. Slow speed applications mostly.

Just ordered some from Mcmaster-car it was about 13.50 a gallon

I tried Grainger but since I am a end user it was a pain but

The idea Dan had about the big old catalog of theirs

Made me think of my big mc Mcmaster-car catalog

Sure enough gave me a excuse to get that other little thing

I needed from them but never ordered

so I am well on my way with my project

It was neat milling the hole out in the gear box I just got it angled right

Clamped in the vice and lined up then brought it over milled a little

In then turned the shaft on the gearbox got around backed off dropped the collet in

And it was good

it was fun

The stuff in McMaster is 634, not SHC 634. Mobil has a habit of using similar names for different products.
