Which welding helment should I get?

I have a couople of HF masks - one at home and oen in the forge. I like them, and in fact gave one to my father in law, and got another for a stainless welder (weldor for Americans) (Lee). Both of them do far mor tig than I do, and Lee was spending a lot of his day doing it, adn is a gun SS welder. Both are very pleased with them for tig. I like mine, although I mainly do stick and mig. Good value IMO Geoff (New Zealand)

Instead of absorbing most of the light of the arc, the gold lens reflects it back toward the work area. That's like adding a 500 watt Halogen work light. You can see the entire work area better (only after the arc is struck, of course).

I would say you just have to try one to see what the big deal is. There is an incredible difference to the better with a gold lens. I am not sure what it does or how it works, but I do know that it gives a lot more depth perception, and makes the puddle infinitely more visible. Be careful when cleaning, and treat it good, cause they are expensive. Put a cover lens on both sides. If you don't like it, you will be the first person I have heard of that doesn't.

I was once told by a scientist that gold is transparent to UV. I read that gold blocks IR. I don't know how that could affect visibility, but I can imagine how it might affect your vision.
