WTD-Logan 12" Spindle nose center

A fellow has asked me to help him find the spindle nose adapter for a Logan 12", that will allow him to turn between centers. He needs the spindle end adapter, which IRRC is close to MT5 ish.

Might it be a MT4-1/2? If the Logan has a L-00 spindle it might well be that size. Clausing still sells them new for around $50 and I imagine that Scott Logan also sells them.

BTW, what does "WTD" in your header stand for - Want To Discuss? Want To Deal?

Because the buyer indicated he had checked pricing and "already had a use for his first born child" to quote him. Ive no idea about the price personally. Just passing on the request.

Probably not the thing he wants to hear, but why don't you recommend he turn a center in place, using his 3 jaw chuck, which then would also drive his parts? The only real negative is giving up a little in length. He could probably put the money saved to better use.

I turned one to match the taper in my spindle, short 5MT. I used the compound to cut the taper, then prussian blue and adjusted until I had a good fit. I held it in a 1" 5C collet, turned the 1" part first. Once it fit, I removed the 5C adapter one last time, reversed and cut the center. A trueing cut can be taken when needed, and a witness mark on the face would help repeat location.

Geez, Mark. I would think you of all people would know who to ask.

I indeed did know..and in fact gave him your website and phone number along with a personal recommendation.

He is a struggling gunsmith..and I gather he didnt want to spend the money, as reasonable as those of us in the know...know it to be.

He was hoping for good used. Shrug. Lead em to water, but cant make em drink.
