FDM Miniature Profiles Tuned for Bambu Printers

When everything is dialed in, this set of print profiles turns a standard FDM machine into a proper miniature printer. At a 0.06 mm layer height with eSUN PLA Pro, the maker reports smooth overhangs and no visible layer lines across the shoulders, which is the part of a mini where printer quality usually gives itself away.

The package is version 16 of an ongoing tuning effort, built inside Bambu Studio and aimed at the Bambu Lab A1 and the A1 Mini. That is a sensible scope in my view, since tuning profiles to a specific machine family is far more reliable than one giant profile that pretends to fit everything.

What stands out is how filament-specific the work is. The testing covered Sunlu Meta, referenced as V16 .08 #2, alongside the eSun filament listed as V16 .06, and eSUN PLA Pro also went through the testing. The default layer height sits at 0.08 mm, with a recommendation to drop that to 0.06 mm when running eSUN PLA Pro. Having named variants per filament keeps the choices clear instead of burying them in a settings list.

The honest limit is Sunlu Meta: pushed down to 0.06 mm, it suffers a drop in print quality and develops coarse overhangs, so it stays better suited to the taller default. That split between filaments is exactly the kind of trade-off worth documenting, and it makes the whole set more trustworthy for anyone printing minis on these machines.

Does the maker say whether the eSun V16 .06 filament is meant to run at the finer 0.06 mm height straight away, or does the advice to switch the default apply only to eSUN PLA Pro? I keep rereading the filament list and the two seem to be treated separately, and I want to be sure before I try it.

Keeping 0.08 mm as the default looks like the right call to me. Since Sunlu Meta loses quality and throws rough overhangs when forced finer, a taller default protects users who load the wrong spool, and the finer height becomes a deliberate choice rather than an accident. The trade-off is that eSUN PLA Pro users have to edit the setting themselves every time, which is a small tax on an otherwise clean setup.

A concrete improvement would be a second profile with the 0.06 mm height already baked in and labelled for eSUN PLA Pro, sitting next to the 0.08 mm default. That removes the manual switch and the risk of forgetting it, while leaving the Sunlu Meta profile untouched at its height where it actually performs well. Splitting by filament rather than by one mutable default seems like the natural next step for this set.

For eSUN PLA Pro, the recommendation is to change the profile default from 0.08 mm down to 0.06 mm, so that filament is the one tied to the switch. The eSun V16 .06 entry is listed as a tested filament, but the maker has not said how its layer height relates to the default beyond that, so the naming may be all we have to go on.
